Four away trips for NUDSA this season,
that could be a record, 2 wins and 2 losses isn't too
bad by NUFC's standards.
Confidence was obviously low around
NUFC going into this potential relegation banana skin.
Nobody amongst the Toon Army likes to talk about getting
sucked down the league, but I think it was at the back
of all our minds before this game, given the tight points
situation in the league and our dreadful form. On a
sunny easter weekend, Geordies could have been forgiven
for choosing to spend Saturday afternoon in BBQ mode
in the garden or the beer garden, I myself pondered
that one, but no - Once again thousands of Geordies
donned buses to head south, albeit not far for a change.
The NUDSA bus left one short as Paul's dad was taken
into hospital that morning, but he was not put off and
an epic last-gasp dash saw him join up with us in the
stadium - somehow managing to blag his way into the
ground without a ticket. He was well rewarded in the
end with a solid display from NUFC seeing us going out
deserved 2-1 winners, easing any untalked relegation
fears, the improved display coincided with James Milner's
return to the side after a bizarre spell out of the
team.
The players - especially captain Parker
- were visibly still in the huff with the Toon Army
after the stick handed out at the Man City defeat, with
only Stephen Taylor coming over at the final whistle.
It disappoints me that the players are so public in
their dislike of a bit of criticism from their own fans,
criticism I feel they completely deserved. But it seemed
to do them good as we commanded a pretty ordinary Sheffield
United. I've never been to Brammel Lane before but It's
a nice ground and the club is well supported - the only
downside was the fact that wheelchairs couldn't get
into the back of the stand for a pint and a pie, obviously
they don't think disabled people have any desposable
income. Strangely the VIP guests are taken out for half
time drinks past the away fans and down a tunnel to
the car park, the obviously picked up a fair bit of
stick on the way even though many of the shirt and tie
brigade were Geordies and tried to point this out -
Obviously the Sheffield fans clocked on to this and
it all kicked off in the second half as the 'guests'
sat amongst the home fans. Riot police had to go up
and protect these VIPs whoever they were, the funny
part was that John Beresford was with the ground and
as he came out I spoke to him and he said it was getting
pretty hairy. Lesson for Sheffield United - If you're
going to have VIPs at matches, make sure there's a convenient
bar to go in at half time, not a portacabin in the car
park.
Unfortunately the blades look likely
to go down, which is a shame because I'd definately
go back and we want as many Londoners out of this league
as possible.
Toon should have
been more confortable but made sure in the end.
Toon won 1-2 : (Nade - Martins, Taylor)
